Day 6 Yurutse/Gandala/Skiu
Climb to Gandala (4907m) is not so steep and takes about 3 hrs. A clear day provides a spectacular view of mountains to the north merging into the distant Karakoram ranges & in south - Nun Kun peaks & Zanskar range. For the next 3 hrs a steady descent leads to the head of the Skiu valley. Follow the Skiu Nala, bordered by willows and wild roses, through a series of gorges requiring quite a few river crossings all the way to the village of Skiu (3700m).

Day 7 Skiu/Markha
A fairly longish day of about 7 hrs, along the Markha river upstream. Woody bushes grow thickly along the river all the way to the charming village of Chaluk. Continue to the village of Markha (3850m), which has a monastery well worth visiting for its frescoes.

Day 8 Markha/Hankar
From Markha the landscape changes from the warm, relatively wooded section to the starker area past the village of Umalung. Continue on to the twin villages of Hankar, taking about 4 hrs. (4000m)

Day 9 Hankar/Nimaling
The first two hrs are fairly easy followed by 3 hrs of ascending route to Nimaling plain. (4650m)

Day 10 Nimaling
Nimaling is a big meadow, nestling at the base of Mt. Kang Yatse (6200m), where thousands of sheeps, goats, yaks and cow-yak crossbreeds graze during summer months. Day to wander in this vast grassland dotted with camps of herdsmen and women both from down-valley and from villages in the Indus Valley.

Day 11 Nimaling/Kangmarula/ Chuskarmo (Chogdo)
Crossing to the left-hand valley, towards the north and begin the climb up to the highest pass of the trek, Kongmarula (5150m) with its wonderful views from the top. Trail descends steeply to the head of Martselang valley. Follow the Martselang stream to the village of Chuskarmo (4050m)
